Michiganders finding community, politics and meaning
Most people are dedicated to national news. They read the New York Times and watch CNN. And their identities — their political identities, at least — follow downstream from there. We’re Democrats or Republicans instead of Oak Park residents, bowling participants, or bloc club members. But maybe we really are’t so much these things, we’re just being led to be them? Maybe the local things we’ve strayed from are the things we want the most? Maybe they could give us the most meaning, if only we let them.
In this blog, I explore community, politics, and meaning. Mostly, I’m looking at how Michigan state and local politics make our communities better or worse, and provide new avenues to uncover meaning.
